New Hampshire state requirements
Insurance policies in New Hampshire are required to have the following coverages at the following limits:
Required Coverage | Minimum Limits |
Bodily Injury Liability | $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident |
Property Damage Liability | $25,000 per accident |
Medical Payments | $1,000 per accident |
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist | Equal to your Bodily Injury Liability limit |
Bodily injury liability coverage
This protects you if you’re responsible for injuring someone in a car accident. This coverage can help pay for the injured party’s medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. It may also help pay your expenses in a related lawsuit. You need at least $25,000 of coverage per person and $50,000 per accident in NH.
Property damage liability coverage
This protects you if you’re responsible for damaging someone else’s property in a car accident. This coverage helps reimburse another person for their damaged property (such as a car or a building). It also helps pay your expenses in the event of a related lawsuit. There’s a minimum limit of $25,000 per accident for NH insurance policies.
Medical payments (MedPay) coverage
This helps pay for reasonable and necessary medical expenses and funeral expenses for you, your passengers or members of your family if injured in an accident, regardless of who was at fault. In New Hampshire, you need at least $1,000 of coverage.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM)
This coverage helps pay medical costs and other related expenses when you or one of your passengers is injured in an accident caused by a driver who doesn’t have insurance or has insufficient insurance. It also covers unidentified drivers, as in the case of hit-and-run accidents. The limit for UM/UIM coverage is equal to your bodily injury liability limit. UM/UIM coverage does not pay for physical damage to your car, but your optional collision coverage will if you have it.
Recommended insurance coverage in NH
When you come to Plymouth Rock for your car insurance needs in NH, you’ll have some additional coverages to choose from.
